Card positions and meanings

Read each card through the role of its fixed position. A card does not mean the same thing in every place in a spread.

  1. Past

Events, experiences, or established patterns that have occurred and shaped the current circumstances.

  2. Present

The practical conditions and principal forces currently affecting the question.

  3. Near Future

A new circumstance or change likely to enter the situation soon and potentially influence what follows.

  4. Your Attitude

How the querent’s thoughts, feelings, attitude, or behavior participate in and affect the situation.

  5. External Influences

Effects from other people, the environment, institutions, or conditions the querent cannot fully control.

  6. Obstacle

The main resistance, tension, blind spot, or practical limitation that needs to be recognized and addressed.

  7. Likely Outcome

The direction most likely to develop from the combined forces above if nothing materially changes.

How to use this version

  1. Choose one focused situation and define a useful time frame for Near Future and Likely Outcome.
  2. Draw seven cards in order from the lower left, around the horseshoe, to the lower right.
  3. Read Past–Present–Near Future first, compare Your Attitude with External Influences, then integrate Obstacle and Likely Outcome.
