XVII · Major Arcana
Core Meaning
Healing is possible when you reconnect with trust and inspiration.
The Star represents hope, healing, renewal, and the possibility of brighter prospects after difficulty. It suggests reconnecting with faith, openness, and a calmer vision for the future.
Reversed, the Star can point to discouragement, loss of faith, self-doubt, or feeling disconnected from hope. It may suggest difficulty restoring trust or remaining open to support.
Contextual Meanings
These are FlipTarot's original contextual applications of the card's RWS core mechanism—not quotations from Waite or fixed predictions. Compare the upright and reversed expressions with the facts of your situation.
Honesty, hope, and emotional healing make a gentler and more authentic connection possible.
Discouragement or idealizing a distant possibility may be preventing engagement with the relationship as it is.
Renewed direction and visible authenticity can support work that feels purposeful after a difficult period.
Loss of confidence or inspiration needs a concrete next step rather than another perfect vision.
A gradual recovery or long-range goal benefits from consistency, realism, and renewed confidence.
Optimism without numbers—or discouragement without review—can both distort your financial picture.
Practice hope as openness and honest participation, not certainty about an outcome.
Return to small restorative practices when faith feels inaccessible or performative.
The great eight-pointed star and seven smaller stars symbolize light from above, spiritual gifts, and guidance beyond the ordinary.
The naked woman, one knee on earth and one foot in water, pours the waters of life on land and into the pool, symbolizing truth, nourishment, and renewal of the soul.
The bird in the tree and the undulating ground suggest that the field of life is nourished back into growth by something from above.
The card is often read as hope, but in Waite’s symbolism it points more deeply to revealed truth, the waters of life, and gifts descending from a higher source.
